Rigid Pipe Installation
TME provide a high quality, efficient service for the installation of hydraulic pipework, ensuring our clients equipment is finished to a high standard within restricted timeframes. TME support our clients with the design of pipe routings and offer complete supply of materials, labour and site equipment.
As hydraulic piping work is often visible from the exterior of equipment skilled fitters and well maintained equipment are essential to achieving results that are both technically and aesthetically pleasing. TME maintain a range of pipe cutting and precession bending equipment for pipe sizes ranging from 6mm to 2″ and have experience working on a wide variety of equipment with challenging pipe routings and installation constraints.
For offshore and exposed applications TME utilise 316 Stainless Steel, Duplex or 6MO pipe and fittings supplied with batch traceability and material certification.
For small bore pipework TME recommend DIN2353 sealing systems, designed for high pressure hydraulics and incorporating an elastomeric seal. TME’s EO2 Form workstation is transportable to any site location and enables rapid on-site forming and installation of DIN2353 piping without additional equipment hire costs.
For SAE Flange, larger bore pipework and pipework repairs TME recommend weld free technologies as the most cost effective solution for critical equipment.
We understand that for many projects the method of installation and fitting style may have already been specified. Our hydraulic installers are trained in a variety of systems most commonly encountered:
- Twin Ferrule – Swagelok / A-Lok
- DIN2353 – EO2 Form / Walform and JIC
- 37o Flare Flange
- Welding – Socket / Butt
Hydraulic Hose Installation
Hydraulic hoses are an essential part of virtually all hydraulic systems. TME offer a comprehensive hose assembly and installation service for industrial and marine applications. For new equipment TME can assist in the planning of hose routings and in determining the best transition sequences between flexible hose and rigid pipe.
To ensure the integrity and quality of our installations TME work in accordance with ISO17165-2 which covers the following critical requirements;
best practice for hose routing
minimum bend radius
assembly cleanliness and flushing
pressure testing of assembled hoses
use of validated hose and end fitting combinations
As standard TME supply pressure test and flushing certificates and where required we are able to provide full material traceability certificates and installed hose registers.
Flush and Pressure Test
The cleanliness and integrity of hydraulic systems is essential for achieving the maximum performance and lifetime of a system. This is even more important when operating systems with high precision components such as proportional valves. For offshore operation, where low maintenance requirements are essential, starting with a clean system and confidence in your hose and piping integrity is the first step to reliability and failure prevention.
- Flushing in accordance to ISO23309:2007 “methods of cleaning lines by flushing”
- Flow settings calculated to create turbulent flow through each pipe or hose to be flushed
- Oil cleanliness levels are displayed and recorded using a particle counter
- Certified to Nas 1638 and ISO 4406 Standards
- Pellet cleaning for none critical applications
- Hose register and tagging
- Individual hose assemblies identified with test reference number, time and date.
- Pressure test certificates issued for each hose/pipe.
TME Hydraulics provide a comprehensive commissioning service for hydraulic equipment. Effective commissioning of equipment allows running in issues to be identified and addressed in a safe an controlled manner without disruption to operational activities. Common activities addressed during commissioning include;
- pre-setting of valves to operational values for speed and pressure
- oil sampling to verify system cleanliness
- elimination of pipe and hose clashes through full range of movement
- verification of e-stop features
- testing of HMI control systems
- operator training
A commissioning report is provided as part of the documentation pack.

TME provide a small bore piping service to meet and exceed the demands of the Oil and Gas industry. Not only do our fitters perform with speed and accuracy we also offer full documented traceability from material certification, pipe fabrication, flushing and pressure testing. All our testing and documentation is maintained in accordance with ISO Norms and reduces the burden of supervision on our busy clients.
TME manufactured marine ready hydraulic power units and control manifolds as part of a larger refurbishment and upgrade project for 10T and 5T deck cranes. The hydraulic power units were designed to incorporate features of the original units that the end user expressed a desire to maintain whilst introducing stainless steel tanks and pipework and improving the overall layout.
We look forward to installing these units when the vessel becomes available in dock.
Containerised HPU Hazardous Area – 2 x 132kW
TME supplied a complete hydraulic power unit assembled within a 20ft container ready for installation offshore. The system was designed in close collaboration with our client to ensure the functionality and build specification was in accordance with the overall equipment package being supplied.
TME utilised our network of suppliers and internal engineering capability to ensure compliance to hazardous area and offshore safety demands.
Prior to hand over of the container and documentation package TME undertook an extensive commissioning program and customer witness FAT.
TME supplied skilled hydraulic pipe fitters to an equipment package supply company in north east Scotland. Our fitters worked independently on-site to undertake the complex small bore piping of a number of hydraulic skid units. By using TME skilled fitters, familiar with hydraulic piping and fitting systems, the client was able to accelerate the build schedule and have confidence in the quality of the final build.
A large automotive parts manufacturing plant was undertaking an overhaul of one of their production lines and contracted TME to support with the refurbishment and upgrade of the hydraulic systems. After assessment of the existing equipment it was identified that whilst most equipment could be refurbished one HPU should be replaced with an upgraded model. This was manufactured on a short turn around to suit the maintenance schedule. TME undertook installation and commissioning of the new and refurbished equipment at site.
We have recently completed the assembly and testing of a variety of hydraulic power units for offshore applications. These systems were supplied within stainless steel enclosures and utilise bespoke manifolds for space saving and layout benefits. The pictured unit includes a pneumatic panel incorporated onto the front tank face.
Weld – Free Hydraulic Installation
TME Hydraulics completed the installation of hydraulic pipe and hoses for a hydraulic gangway system. The TME scope of supply included the modelling of the pipework for integration with the client assembly model. The pipework is 316 Stainless Steel with Tube-Mac 37o Flare SAE Flange connections for the large bore piping and Parker EO2 Form for small bore piping. Pipework and hoses were fabricated, flushed and pressure tested at the build location with a complete hose register and detailed pipe fabrication report supplied to the client. Using weld-free connections allowed the job to be completed to a high quality in a short timescale.
On Vessel Equipment Upgrade
TME Hydraulics technician travelled to Rotterdam to install an upgraded hydraulic control console for a ROV Launch and Recovery System. The hydraulic control console was manufactured at TME’s Ryton, Tyne & Wear workshop. The console was installed on board the vessel, flushed and commissioned in-situ ready for operation. The job was completed safely and efficiently in the planned time frame. TME have completed the hydraulic outfitting of over 30 LARS systems of various designs using pipe connections with Swagelok, A-Lok, DIN EO2/Wallform and JIC.
High Pressure Pipe Installation
TME completed the installation of high pressure hydraulic pipework with Parker Autoclave fittings on 48 pipe spool assemblies for an oil and gas application. Pipes were formed installed and pressure tested at the customer site witnessed by the end customer.
The compact assembly design and demanding customer requirements dictated that the pipework required precision forming to match each individual assembly making it necessary to conduct the work at the customer site in parallel with their production program.
